Episode 41 Kagura’s Dance and Kanna’s Mirror and Episode 42 The Wind Scar Defeated. And others…
The spawns of Naraku have arrived! Kagura, Wind Mistress and Kanna, mirror child…or whatever. They’re creepy, they’re annoying, they’re strong and they’re controlled by Naraku.
The good thing about this episode is that there’s a lot of jealous feelings flying about and not just between Inuyasha and Kagome. Sango and Miroku as well!! It all starts when this girl runs into them and it turns out she met Miroku long ago, he was kind to her and asked her to bear his child. No surprise there but what is a surprise is that she is willing to do it. The fun part of it all is seeing Sango all prickly about the situation and when Inuyasha points it out, he hits a nerve, angering Sango. It’s all very fun to watch. Sango even goes so far as to (almost regretfully) telling Miroku he never asked her to bear his children. Miroku of course does so immediately, ruining the moment.
But, because everything has to be an insidious plot, Naraku sends two of his spawns to mess with the gang. One of them, Kanna, is a child-shaped demon with a mirror. She was born of Naraku and void, while Kagura was born of Naraku and wind. Kanna has the ability to suck up people’s soul into her mirror. She does so and then Kagura is able to control them. The souless village people distract Inuyasha and Miroku while Kanna moves to steal Kagome’s soul. Sango tries to protect her but Kanna’s mirror is able to reflect attacks and Sango is hit with her own giant boomerang. Kanna starts stealing Kagome’s soul but her soul is so large she is not able to take all of it. Do you guys get this? Kagome’s soul is sooo large, it leaks out of Kanna’s mirror. Reason #567 to love Kagome.
Meanwhile Inuyasha uses the Wind Scar on Kagura but Kanna reflects it with her mirror and Inuyasha is hit with the Tetsusaiga’s attack. Things look very grim for our team and to make things worse, Naraku decides to appear for a visit. Weakened Kagome asks Kirara to take her to Inuyasha. She uses her arrow to stop Kagura’s attack on Inuyasha and goes to him, expressing how happy she is that he is alive. The look between them is too adorable. Then she shoots an arrow at Kanna’s mirror and cracks it, releasing all the souls trapped within (including her own). Miroku unleashes the Wind Tunnel but the Demon Trio make their escape. Once again Kagome is the badass savior.
On the next few episodes the only important things that happen are:
- Tetsusaiga breaks in half and Inuyasha’s fang is used to mend it resulting in it being too heavy for Inuyasha to wield.
- Tetsusaiga breaking means Inuyasha’s soul is awakened and he turns into a bloodthirsty demon until Kagome hits him with a nice “sit”
- Inuyasha and Koga join forces to fight another of Naraku’s incarnations and Inuyasha manages to wield his sword for a few seconds because he is so intent on protecting Kagome (ugh. I can’t handle it.)
- Naraku has some kind of longing feeling for Kikyo because his human predecesor Onimuno wanted her so badly (sounds like a perv to me).
